About Julie

Mission Statement

To help people find ways of living better through macrobiotic education and natural healing foods.

Who I am

After 20 years of suffering from migraines, and taking every imaginable pill any doctor could think of, I wanted to find natural ways of preventing migraines rather than just masking the pain.  I looked to holistic health alternatives, but yoga and herbal supplements alone didn't help.  During this time, I learned how to change my beliefs and manage my energy to help myself move forward.  The crowning glory was when I finally found macrobiotics, which allowed me to heal myself on many levels and provided a more balanced way of living.

Excited by the prospect of helping others, I completed all four levels at the Kushi Institute, the world-renowned leader in macrobiotics, to be a macrobiotic instructor and counselor.  Inspired by the opportunity to promote a diet of natural healing foods, I subsequently became a natural and therapeutic chef at Bauman College: Holistic Nutrition and Culinary Arts in Berkeley, CA.  I became a private chef for clients healing from cancer, while I was a head chef at Manzanita Restaurant in Oakland, CA, specializing in organic vegan macrobiotic cuisine.

After learning acupressure at the Kushi Institute, I continued my education to become an acupressure practitioner, and use my knowledge of Traditional Asian Therapies in conjuction with macrobiotic counseling.

I reside in beautiful San Francisco, CA.  I believe in a wholistic approach to health, in which all levels--spirit, mind, and body--are healed.  I received my BA in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.  I hold certification in spiritual counseling and life coaching.  At the Sivananda Yoga Center, I received mantra initiation, which is a spiritual ceremony that facilitates meditation practice.  Along with the mantra, I was given the spiritual name Omkari, which is the name for the universal sound Om (pronounced AUM).
